Be careful what you wish for….

The boys decided to let their hair grow. Long hair seems to be in again, I guess. Well, to me, it’s just hair. So whatever. Let it grow. Reed declared last week that he was not happy with the new look. He wanted a haircut. That is not something most mothers hear from their sons. I promise.
So today, Andrew took him to the barber. Before they left, Reed asked me if he could get a buzzcut. This isn’t the first time he’s asked. I reminded him that it’s winter. The fact that today was 65 degrees made that a bit less convincing of an argument, but…. So I said fine. It’s just hair.
So imagine my surprise when he came home crying. Andrew was speechless. I told him about all the unhappy haircuts I’ve had in my life and that it grows. At least no one will confuse him with either of his brothers now.

Oh, he looks great, and tell him the girls love to touch that buzz-cut hair, or is that not something that will make him feel better yet?
My son had any number of hairstyles in the last 6 years from buzz cuts, to buzz cut with stripes shaved in, to bleached blond spikes. Now he wears it in long naturally curly ringlets.
One nice thing about fashion today is that anything goes.
Not much interested in girls, no. But he looks cute, I agree. It’s true, anything goes. I am glad, though, that he hasn’t asked for stripes shaved in yet. He is only 8. I probably have another year or so…..
i gave the six year old a mohawk this summer because he asked me and ya know…it’s summer!
mom was too happy about it…..but ya cant control everything…goood for you for letting him get it buzzed off!
aw, poor kid. would it help if i brought over some pictures of my hair in 7th grade when i decided i could cut it myself? i swear that will make him feel better (or at least laugh uncontrollably)
Thank god he’s cute. Wendy, that’s what you’d look like with a buzz!!! I got my hair cut once when I has bad PMS. It was hideous. I burst into tears on the way home driving on the interstate and almost killed myself. Knowing Reed, he’ll probably be over it by now. Ellen
Rob’s son did the same thing a few years ago. It was right after Rob started shaving his head and Roman wanted to look just like him. And then he was too embarassed and wore a hat until it grew out. Personally, I think he looks great. Be carefully taking off hats though… they can stick to the hair and feel like velcro coming off, or so I’ve been told.
NOTE: My very best friend thought that the middle picture was Reed before and the last one was Reed after. Not so. These are my 3 sons – in this order: oldest, youngest, middle. Note the lack of teeth on the little guy.
