Just a blip.
Posted: March 19, 2006 Filed under: Uncategorized 5 Comments »I am beyond tired. Reed woke me every 20 minutes or so last night to ask for more Caladryl. Who can blame him? He has pox everywhere you can see (and everywhere you can’t). Three things I’ve been thinking about today….
(and then back to the kid)
1) Have you seen “The New Adventures of Old Christine” on CBS yet? I feel oddly connected to Julia Louis Dreyfus’ character here. Scary. Anyone see any parallels?
2) I tried to carpool with someone for one of my healthy kids’ friend’s birthday party today. The neighbor opted out – afraid that my healthy 7-year-old was a carrier of the pox and strep. When I pointed out that I was sending him to the party anyway, it had no impact on the decision. Would you keep a healthy kid home on the chance that he might perhaps get sick in a couple days?
3) The dads around here are a lot friendlier than the moms. (in general – if you are a friendly mom around here, you know who you are & you don’t need me to pat you on the back!)
Hopefully, tomorrow will be a “normal” day.

Wendy, I can relate, my 19 year old was up with fever last night, practically hallucinating. Saw Julia Louis Dreyfus’ new show…didn’t love it…have to give it another try.
I would send a healthy kid to a party, yep. Tell her you can’t carpool any of her kids on the off chance that they may have been exposed to someone who may have been exposed to someone who may be getting sick! (See, her thinking is absurd)
Some dad’s are friendlier…maybe just not hung up on the same crap that women get hung up on.
Ok, I now know my kids can get chickenpox even if they have the vaccination.
I like the drive-thru throat culture. Too bad doctors don’t do more drive-thru work so you needn’t sit in the office (with other sick kids) and wait around.
After the Branch and Blossom were born, I read that mother’s groups can be as bad as high school clicks. I’ve avoided the other women in my neighborhood but I think the jig is up come this summer. There is a stay-at-home dad I see with his daughter at the park and you’re right, he seems more laid back.
1) Not to give away any of my dating-since-divorced news (or lack thereof) but that Sad-Dad episode of Christine…Lord, I am so scared that is going to be me before long!
2) I wouldn’t have kept the healthy kid home either. Two of my art kids, however, are from a family of 7, and their Mom is especially careful about exposing her kids to viruses; 5 kids with flu makes one tired mommy.
3) Those jealous bitches, uh..I mean, unfriendly Moms are intimidated by your beauty. What can you do? Nothing; it’s a cross you must bear. Chin up, chest out, carry on, girlfriend!
ugh.
(ugh. ugh. ugh.)
sorry about the sick kids. sorry about the jerk mom who won’t be around your healthy child. sorry about the mean moms. it’s true. the moms around here (or maybe it’s everywhere?) are like junior high and high school cliques.
no thanks. i suffered through that once. don’t need to do it again. i always try to talk to the dads on the playground.
CM – sounds awful! I hope your kid is better now! You’re right. Dads just aren’t so competitive, I think.
Junebee – yup – the pox vaccine isn’t perfect at all. I really DO like a lot of moms – it’s just that the dads ARE more laid back, I think you’re right on.
GNG-gnightgirl said… That Sad-Dad incident – oy vey! That won’t be you, I’m sure of it! The decision about exposure it tough. I’ve even had to cancel workmen at the house – or at least warn them!
RIGHHHHHHHHT. The moms are intimidated. I KNEW it must be that. Hee hee. Some are very nice. It’s not fair to generalize, I suppose.
Kristin – The moms. You & I have talked about this. Some just take it all too seriously. Who really cares about some of that stuff!?
