Pop.

Sometimes, the people we want to be with most are like us. I mean just like us. People often choose to be with like-minded folks regarding politics, religion, family makeup, etc. I know that it works out like that a lot. But sometimes, what we need is someone who will challenge our thinking, challenge our assumptions. That can be very healthy.

I’ve been alone with my friend for a couple days now. While we philosophically agree on virtually everything, we have a conundrum.

She is a die-hard Diet Coke drinker. I am a loyal Diet Pepsi drinker.

I know, this is not insurmountable. She buys Diet Pepsi for me when I come to visit and, yes, I buy Diet Coke for her when she comes east. But what of the significance of our strong and disparate feelings regarding diet pop? Could this signify a greater gap between us than we are able or willing to recognize?

Fortunately for me, I have lots and lots and lots of time to think about it as I try to fly home. Time in the security line. Extra time to sit and wait for my flight. With any luck, I’ll uncover the deeper meaning of our beverage gap.

So long as you don’t actually drink anything in those lines. That’s quite frowned upon today. Oh, and Go Diet Coke!

    Diet Coke for me too.

Hope you make it home in a timely fashion! Good luck.

Based on your topic today, I’d say you had a relaxing visit. Hope your airport experience isn’t going to take away from that!

as so much else is the same, perhaps there needs to be just one difference. :) at least it is not diet vs. regular! that would definetly be a deal breaker!

i hope your travels go as smoothly as possible. i’ve been thinking of you!!

There IS a taste difference! (Remember those taste tests?)

It seems every person I know has an opinion on this one.

If it were between those two, I’d pick Diet Pepsi – but I LOOOOOOOVE Diet Mt. Dew and Diet Dr. Pepper even more!

But, of course, I believe friends have some differences. Your friend could be telling you how horrible soda (and artificial sweetener) is for your health, etc…

I hope you make it home soon!

you are the only person i know who drinks diet pepsi. ick! :)

Diet Pepsi tastes better but Diet Coke has more “kick” to it. However, I’m too cheap to buy either one, so I buy store-brand diet cola.

I don’t like going out with people that are so die-hard for one soda or another that they’ll walk right out if the restaurant serves the wrong diet drink for them. I mean, get OVER it.

I have the solution to your conflict: Diet Cheerwine. Unfortunately it’s only available in the South so you’ll all have to move. It’s worth it, though; Cheerwine is some good!

Coke Zero for me, please. I wonder how much of it is brand marketing – they hook us with a certain song or commercial when we’re kids so we grow up singing the “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing” song whilst waving a Diet Coke in the air… They DO taste a bit different, but honestly not enough to notice – as long as you’re not looking at the can while you take a drink.
