Finding Blanche

Nothing stays the same.

Self portrait in the year 2038.

This is what Max thinks he’ll look like in 2038. BTW, that’s a saxophone to his right. He looks a little like a beatnik to me. Maybe he’ll be a poet who plays sax?

Cherry blossoms.

We did go downtown yesterday – us and about 1 million other people. The metro was beyond crowded. It was unreal. But as soon as we walked among the beautiful trees, the crowds and the stress melted away.

It was a lovely day.

Story Corps

I’ve told you how much I love Story Corps.

Today’s was really nice. (I didn’t cry for a change!)

If you have 2 minutes, listen!

A Victim Treats His Mugger Right

March 28, 2008 ยท Julio Diaz ends his daily subway commute one stop early, just so he can eat at his favorite diner. One evening, his routine was broken when a teenage mugger took his wallet at knifepoint. But neither of them could have predicted what happened next.

Well done.

Great tweet from tangerinetoad

It’s a video made by a young woman for AARP. Very well done. Check it out.

Jacks.

Does anyone play jacks anymore?

I used to love that game. I was pretty good, too. My friends and I would play for hours and hours. Then my brother would come in and beat us all.

Oh, the memories.

Chinese jump rope. I loved that too.

Simpler times.

What R U Doing Online?

I’m now on Twitter for work-related tweets. And I’m on I.M. with my team all day long. We have a great project management site that takes some care and feeding. And I’m on Facebook – selectively. And of course, like so many of you, I have hundreds of emails a day.

Trouble is…

There’s not much time to get my work done.

Okay, I’m exaggerating. But seriously.

We’re all trying out a slew of tools. We’re trying to collaborate. Really we are.

I’m having a great time and learning lots of new stuff every day. And meeting tons of new people. And making great connections. Probably even building a foundation for new business opportunities.

But I’m exhausted.

I’ve read every single article about managing and compartmentalizing technology. I get it. I do. I know what I should do.

But it’s so darn exciting and mind-expanding and exciting.

What’s a girl to do?

In passing…

Sitting here working. Not happy about it, mind you, since it’s 8:30 pm. One son asks, “What does it feel like to be dead? I mean one second you’re alive and then you’re dead. What’s it like? Oh wait, I guess you can’t answer that. I’ll just have to think about it.”

Well, that was interesting.

What was it like 40 years ago today?

Easier.

Turns out Blanche is easier. Not the easiest, mind you.

Back home at the ranch, with everyone gone for spring break, it was awfully quiet.

So isn’t it just extra sweet that Ellen and her clan took these for me when they went out west to ski? She was thinking of little ole me. Sure is nice to know that I rank.

Hugs.

What is the statute of limitations?

I couldn’t think of anything to blog about.

I know. It’s lame.

But I really wanted to write. So I opened the box. The box marked ‘wedding and misc.’ that lives in my closet. I thought I’d find something funny to egg me on.

But what I found was this:

img.jpg

Wonder when that was from? It was from when Andrew and I got engaged. In 1993. June.

The card it was in is really cute; talks about the top 10 reasons to get engaged. It’s from a college friend who I like so much but never see or talk to. I regret that I don’t. I miss her. She has a great husband and 2 kids. And I barely know her anymore. It makes me sad.

But I digress.

So this nice friend gave me this cute card with the gift certificate.

I DON’T REMEMBER EVER SEEING IT BEFORE.

That might not seem too weird to you, but it’s really weird to me. I don’t forget things.

So I found this today. Oh man would I love a deep tissue massage.

So I went online (which would have been much harder in 1993, right?) and found this Helen Hickman.

Turns out, she’s rocking good. Reviews that are unbelievable.

But there are two problems.

1) The gift certificate is almost 15 years old. While there’s no expiration date – and it does say ANY home – I don’t know that she’d be thrilled to accept it and,
2) She practices in San Francisco.

Well. What to do?

I’m thinking of calling her to see if it’s still good.

For giggles? For next time I’m out there? To give to someone who lives out there?

Honestly, I don’t know. What do you think? Should I call? Know anyone in SF who would like it? (I do know someone really nice who used to work at Landor…)

And if you are the nice friend who gave this to me? I’m so sorry that I didn’t redeem it sooner. And I hope I sent you a really nice thank you note! I always knew you were there for me.
